I hope this clears a FEW things up. That being said, most wedding blogs or planning sites give couples a list of questions to ask their photographers. Not to mention all of the questions I tend to get asked by my potential couples. So if you still have some burning questions about me, my photography, or how I run my business hopefully this answers them for you.
WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE?
I am a bright and natural light photographer. For sessions I typically schedule around sunset hour in order to capture the colors of our beautiful sun falling beyond the horizon. For weddings I like to schedule bride and groom time as near sunset hour if at all possible, if not I will work with the available sunlight in the best way possible. I also typically budget in 10 - 15 minutes around sunset if possible to capture that magic light if it's there. I do not use or own a studio for my sessions. I have off-camera flash for low light situations such as receptions during weddings.
On wedding days I typically do a lot of photojournalism style photography. Meaning I photograph events as they happen. Rarely will I stage events to meet photographic needs. Meaning that if a certain event does not happen on your day (i.e. mother helping with bride's gown, dad helping with groom's tie, bouquet toss, etc) there will not be photographic evidence of it because it did not happen. I will, however, ask the mother of the bride or the father of the groom if they would like to be present for these types of events (usually they do) and then I will document what unfolds. I prefer to tell the true story of your day. This of course is with the exception to wedding party, bride and groom, family, and detail portraiture where I will pose subjects for an artfully and uniquely crafted photo.
HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?
I use a combination of Lightroom CC and Adobe Photoshop CC to edit all of my photos.
My editing style is crisp, clean, bright, and natural. I want images to look as close as they did in real life, but maybe a little bit better. My editing method provides you with your best images that have been fully edited including: exposure, color balancing, white balancing, facial/skin smoothing, teeth whitening, and removal of obstructive objects. This will usually result in about 50-100 photos per hour I've been photographing your event. Sessions have a set number of deliverable images given.
HOW DO I BOOK WITH YOU?
HOW DO I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?
You will receive your photos through an online gallery called PASS. This gallery allows you to view, share, print, and download all of the best images from your wedding or session photos. This gallery keeps your images safe in the cloud for ten years while allowing you to download and share during that time. I select what I consider to the be the best images and upload them to your gallery. With your gallery you will receive printing rights to all of your photos for up to an 8X10 in order to do with them as you please. Large prints and canvas wraps are to be ordered through me at my professional print lab.
WHAT THE HECK ARE PRINTING RIGHTS?
Printing rights are rights that I give to you to print my work up to an 8x10 at any location you desire. I will send you a file along with the link to your gallery that will allow you to do this. Photos sized beyond an 8x10 will need to be ordered through me and be printed a professional print lab.
WHERE AND HOW DO I PRINT MY IMAGES?
You have two options to print your images. Included in your online gallery are easy printing options with set prices for 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 and wallet sizes. You can also order gallery canvas wraps in 16x24, 20x30, and 24x36 sizes. Also, you may download all of your images from your gallery and then transport them to your favorite local print place however you choose. However, I do not recommend printing at places like Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, etc. These locations auto-tone their images essentially un-doing all of the editing I worked so hard to do. It will also make your images look bad. For local prints outside of your gallery I recommend Robert's Camera. Images can be uploaded to their website and (if I remember correctly) shipped to your door or picked up at their Carmel, IN location.
WHAT IF I DON'T OR CAN'T DOWNLOAD MY IMAGES IN TIME?
As mentioned beofre, you get your PASS gallery for TEN YEARS! If you cannot or do not download all of your photos prior to your gallery's expiration date (which would be crazy!) we keep backups of all of your edited files. All original RAW images are deleted upon delivery of the gallery. We do require a $100.00 fee for a flash drive to be made and delivered. Please contact us personally for more questions regarding flash drives.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY IMAGES AFTER MY WEDDING OR SESSION?
Processing turn around is anywhere from 4-6 weeks but you will be able to preview some teasers on my Facebook page within a couple of days and a blog post with in a couple weeks.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY CUSTOM PHOTO ALBUM?
Processing turn around for albums is 5-8 weeks from the date we recieve your selections of photos for the album.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU OR YOUR SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER IS SICK?
If I am sick or for some reason unable to photograph your session we will reschedule to your best availability at no cost to you.
As for weddings, I take all of my weddings very seriously. Unless I am hit by a car or abducted by aliens I plan on being at your wedding. I photographed a wedding less than 2 weeks after my c-section, chronic back pain, a cough, the sniffles... you name it. I really love my job. I also refuse to leave you high and dry.
That being said, if for some freak instance I cannot make it to your wedding I will either refund you your money and contract and allow you to hire a new photographer with recommendations by me, if you would like. If it's too close to your wedding date to do this I will hire a photograhper that I trust to photograph your day with your approval.
If Stephanie, my second photographer, is ill or unable to attend your wedding I will hire a different second photographer to attend in her place. I have a few other photographers that I've worked with in the past that I trust to deliver quality images, plus an online group of local photographers that are willing to help each other out in the need of a second. If you pay for a second photographer I will never show up without one.
HOW DO I PAY?
Weddings have an option a 50% deposit and the remaining 50% due 30 days prior to the event or a four-payment payment plan. In the instance of the four payment plan I take your total wedding package amount, divide it by four and then space the payements out as evenly as I can between the date of booking and 30 days prior to your wedding.
For sessions I require that the total amount is due upon booking.
Your deposit is due upon booking. I accept Check and all major Credit Cards.
All contracts and payments are made through my online studio management software called HoneyBook.
WHAT IF I WANT TO ADD MORE TIME TO MY PACKAGE? HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE PER HOUR EXTRA?
You may add hours to your wedding package for $250 per extra hour.
WHAT WEDDING PACKAGES DO YOU OFFER?
Currently I offer three different wedding packages all including coverage hours, your best digital files via a personalized online gallery, printing rights, and a complimentary engagement session. Contact me to find out more specific information about the packages I offer and their costs.
DO YOU TRAVEL FOR WEDDINGS AND/OR SESSIONS?
Absolutely! Anything within 75 miles of my address is of no charge. After 75 miles there is a mileage charge of $0.75 per mile. Please contact me personally for more information on your specific travel situation.
DO I NEED TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A MEAL ON MY WEDDING DAY?
I do ask that you provide me (and my second photographer) with a meal if I/we am/are spending more than 6 hours with you on your wedding day. Trust me, you don't want me going hungry at your reception! #Hangry!
IS THERE AN EASY WAY FOR FAMILY & WEDDING PARTY MEMBERS TO VIEW MY WEDDING PHOTOS?
Yes there is! Your PASS gallery can be shared with any person you deem worthy. They even have the ability to download photos or order prints whenever they'd like.
HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I RECEIVE FROM MY WEDDING?
The number of images you receive depends on how many hours you book at your wedding but typically my wedding clients receive between 50-100 images per hour resulting in roughly 700-900 images.
DO YOU ACCEPT LISTS OF PHOTOS WE WISH TO HAVE TAKEN?
About 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding I will send you a questionnaire that asks you about all of the important people in your life and your immediate family members that will be needed for family formals. With that list and your guidance I will construct a list of the people we will need for those important heirloom photos. Outside of family formals, I hope that you will just my professional judgment by allowing me to use my own style and vision to document and curate unique moments and images for you.
I will take requests for creative photos or specific items you want documented, but I will not copy another photographer's image. This includes ideas from Pinterest.
Please keep in mind that most photos listed on standard "wedding photograph checklists" are things that I typically cover or will cover if the event arises. I will not stage events just to fit a list such as this.
I understand that you have a specific vision of your wedding day, and I can work with you to bring that vision into your wedding photos. I do ask though that you respect my integrity as an individual and artist. That being said, I will not honor requests that may be offensive, illegal, plagiarism or completely unrepresentative of my style.
WHAT IS YOUR WEDDING DAY ATTIRE?
I typically wear something comfortable, fashionable, and non-attention seeking. I try to keep my personal style while not standing out too much. I like flowy knee-length dresses with tights and boots in the fall/winter. In the sprint/summer I prefer knee-length or maxi dresses. Somtimes I will wear dress pants with a nice top. I do have vivid colored hair, currently as I am writing this it's pink and purple. It changes as my mood changes.
