Downtown Indianapolis Mavris Wedding // Anna & Zach

“When no-one else can understand me. When everything I do is wrong. You give me hope and consolation. You give me strength to carry on” // Elvis Presley

Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! I am so excited to share with you Anna & Zach’s beautiful wedding at St. John’s Catholic Church and The Mavris Arts and Event Center in Indianapolis. This wedding was definitely a stunner of a day!! I had so much fun hanging out with these two and their giant wedding party from all over the world! That’s right! ALL. OVER. THE. WORLD. If you remember correctly from their engagement session Anna and Zach live in sunny California! Anna being from Indiana and Zach being from St. Louis and then traveling to LA one can imagine their friends they chose to stand with them on their wedding day are from all over. People flew in from all parts of the United States and the Best Man and his wife (also a bridesmaid) flew in from LONDON to be with them! Honestly though, that just shows how amazing Anna and Zach are! Here I thought I was lucky to be able to travel out last year to meet them for their engagement session and photograph them on the Venice Canals Walkway and El Matador Beach in Malibu! Definitely a fun time! I seriously could have photographed there all day! But I digress…

Anna and Zach met while they were both working together in Chicago back in 2010. They were in the same new employee orientation group and then their cubicles ended up being right next to each other. I’m not sure if their office KNEW they were playing match maker… but they definitely were! Haha! After meeting on that first day at their new jobs it was history from there. They’ve been by each other’s side ever since! Including moving out to LA together when Zach needed to finish school! Which he just did! Which is SUPER cool. He even traveled to China for a little while to study. Super rad. I’m kinda jelly!

This wedding was full of all sorts of fun things! Like, Anna’s LOVE of all things The Colts and Peyton Manning. A donut wall in lieu of a traditional cake. A stunning dress and shoes from BHLDN. Gorgeous dusty purple long bridesmaid dresses. Bridesmaid prep at The Alexander Hotel. The most gorgeous organic florals from Lauren Brown of Woven Blooms. A fun reception at The Mavris including some of the best toasts I’ve seen in a long time, emotional songs, dancing, and corn hole in the garden. So basically you just need to check out this wedding and see all that there is to offer because I’m pretty much in love with it! Go on now! Go!

Indianapolis Museum of Art Colorful Rose Gold Wedding // Sarah & Tim

“And if you have a minute, why don't we go. Talk about it somewhere only we know?” // Lilly Allen

Back in June I was lucky enough to spend the day with Sarah and Tim at their wonderful day amongst the art of the Indianapolis Art Museum with friends and family celebrating their union. It was a rainy day in Indianapolis but we did not let hat dampen the day! The beautiful natural light of the IMA plus their shining attitudes made for some pretty spectacular photos!

Sarah and Tim met through mutual friends stealing glances from across a party. Seriously, their story sounds like the beginning of the romance movie we all wish we were in sometimes! (Minus all of the terrible scripted drama of course!) After a fun day of putt-putt at the IMA and walking through the beautiful gardens with Sarah and her daughter Ellie, Tim decided to propose to both of them. And that’s where our story began that led us to this day. Where two of the sweetest people ever decided to join together in life. I seriously couldn’t have had a cooler couple. Fun, sweet, nerdy, and all around amazing people. I’m so happy to have been there to document their special day. And even though it rained all morning, there was no way the sun could stay hidden all day for them. The sun came out in the evening for a beautiful sunset over the very putt-putt course that Tim took Sarah and Ellie to when he proposed. An all around wonderful day. Indianapolis Biltwell Event Center Wedding // Julia & Andrew

“And if you want, we'll share this life. Anytime you need a friend I'm gonna be by your side” // Matchbox 20

This past Saturday I spent the most amazing day with a couple, their family, and friends documenting the moment they committed their lives to one another at The Biltwell Event Center in Downtown Indianapolis.

Julia and Andrew met at a golf event the summer before their freshman year at Butler University. They spent many years as friends, but EVERYONE else knew they were perfect for each other. They just didn’t seem to see it themselves. You can see it in the way they act around each other... the way they look at each other... they really are perfect for each other. Whether it’s golfing together or Netflix binging with their pup to exploring different Indianapolis breweries together the two of them are always in it together.

Seriously, this wedding was gorgeous. You should just see for yourself!

Indianapolis Vietnamese White River Gardens and Union Station Wedding // Jane & Sean

“I’ll love you more with every breath, truly, madly, deeply do.” // Savage Garden

This past Saturday I spent my day with two high school sweethearts at White River Gardens and Historic Union Station in Downtown Indianapolis as they finally tied the night starting a new chapter in their life that’s been over ten years in the making. Jane, Sean, and I all attended the same high school... you know... way back when. They have been dating literally ever since I can remember. It was wonderful to get the chance to document their big day, especially since I photographed their engagement session two years ago! But they’ve been busy becoming big, fancy, doctors in Kansas City!

With Jane being of Vietnamese decent the duo opted to have a traditional Vietnamese ceremony in the morning with close family and then a Western ceremony following in the afternoon at White River Gardens. After a big break in the day for photos and relaxing they joined their guests at Historic Union Station for dinner, drinks, and dancing as they sealed off the night with tons of fun before they had to pack their bags again to return home.

Indianapolis Mavris Colorful and Elegant Wedding // Heather & Obi

“So don’t ever think I need more. I’ve got the one to live for. No one else will do, I’m tellin’ you. Just put your heart in my hands and I promise it won’t get broken.” // Nathan Sykes

Last Friday’s wedding was definitely one for the books! I spent the day at The Mavris Arts + Event Center in Downtown Indianapolis with two absolutely amazing, loving, and sweet people. Heather + Obi tied the knot on a gorgeous day in July surrounded by wonderful friends and family and backed by a stellar vendor team.

The two of them, technically, met on the bus at Purdue. Heather was immediately drawn to the cute guy with dimples. However it wasn’t until after formally meeting at a party through mutual friends that their relationship blossomed, grew, and flourished through their common sweet demeanor and faith in God. Years later we were brought to this wonderful day and I am just so happy I was able to be part of it! Trust me you guys... this wedding has got me all heart eyes everywhere!! I can’t even stop thinking about it all!!

Indianapolis Elegant Teal + Silver Omni Severin Wedding // Brittany & Cody

“I’ve got you, I don’t need nothing, more than you. I got everything, I’ve got you.” // Jack Johnson

Oh my word, this day finally arrived. A wedding, a life, a friendship, and a love; nine years in the making that it’s hard to believe it’s finally here! Although the weather was cold, the wind was blowing, and things were crazy there was warmth and calming sense of love in the way Brittany and Cody embraced on their wedding day last weekend. With a touching ceremony at Zionsville Presbyterian Church and a gorgeous reception at The Omni Severin Hotel. I was thrilled to be photographing their big day and I had an absolute blast! After photographing their engagement session last year I knew we were going to have a wonderful time on their big day, and we did. So much so that it even exceeded my expectations. I was welcomed into their day and their family with open arms. By the end of the day, I almost felt like one of Brittany’s long lost cousins! But the best part about the whole day was was watching two high school sweethearts commit themselves to one another and taking the first step of many to the rest of their lives together!

Downtown Indianapolis Regions Tower Fall Wedding // Lindsey & Dave

“Tell me that you want me, and I’ll be yours completely, for better or for worse.” // Kodaline

My oh my, oh my, oh my! This wedding ladies and gentleman. This wedding is definitely up there in like top five favorite weddings from last year. Not to say anything bad AT ALL about my other weddings from 2015. I love each and every one of my clients. They are all amazing and beautiful people committing themselves to each other for life. That in itself is the reason why I do what I do. To tell love stories. But when you have a super fun loving couple paired with an equally fun wedding party, more time for photos than I’ve ever known what to do with, delicious food, heart warming toasts, a sunset, AND a beautiful rainbow come together into one amazing wedding. Well it’s every photographers dream.

Lindsey + Dave are possibly some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! One of my favorite things is when my clients become my friends and I feel like Lindsey and I are sisters from another mister! (P.S. She sends the best snapchats of usually one of three things: her/her & Dave at a sporting event, her super sweet pup, or whatever alcoholic drink she is enjoying at that time. Needless to say, I love her and her snaps.) But I digress... Lindsey and Dave tied the knot on what appeared to be a cold, windy, overcast day in our beautiful capital city Indianapolis. On the fifth floor of the Region’s Tower they exchanged vows, shed tears, danced, laughed, and had the best of times celebrating their nuptials. By the end of their ceremony we thought we weren’t going to have much more than some orangey clouds in the distance for a sunset. But low and behold the clouds cleared and not only did we have an exquisite sunset but a rainbow! A flippin’ rainbow y’all. It was great. Aside from all of the amazing things any photographer would dream of having on a wedding day, I was absolutely honored to be there and witness and document their memories. I feel lucky to have met and been chosen by them and working with them has truly reminded me of why I love what I do.

Ballet Inspired Indianapolis Mavris Arts & Events Center Wedding // Styled Session

“Take time to do what makes your soul happy.” // Unknown

Sometimes, I have to take a little time to do things that excite me most. Which is why I love doing styled shoots. Weddings are amazing, and I love my clients, but it’s extremely fun to have a concept in your brain, see it come to life, and then document it through a styled shoot. This year I’ve done three styled shoots. Earlier in the year I styled two bride and groom sessions my, “Boho Americana” Styled Shoot and the “Hippie Love” Styled Shoot. If you don’t know what a styled shoot is, it’s where various wedding industry professionals get together to create a style and/or concept for a wedding for creative and marketing purposes. They’re a great time to express my creativity and I really enjoy them so when Ooh La La Events contacted me to photograph their Ballet Styled Shoot I was definitely more than happy to hop on board!

Check out some of the wicked photos we captured thanks to our models and the amazing creative team that came together to make this photo shoot possible. Please check out the bottom of this blog post to see everyone who put in their time and effort to make this photo shoot possible!

Bright & Classic Indiana State Museum Wedding // Libby & Dave

A STATEMENT OF LOVE IN INDIANAPOLIS...

When Libby first “smiled” at Dave through eHarmony, neither of them knew that two years later they would be walking down the aisle together at the Indiana State Museum along the canal gathered by 70 of their closest family and friends. But after several adventurous dinners, beer tastings, and adopting three pets together the day finally came when Dave proposed to Libby. After a long day of working in the yard they walked to a local wine shop to sip some wine and enjoy their evening together. Dave tried to get Libby to extend their walk and go to a nearby fountain, but Libby not knowing Dave was trying to propose refused and wanted to get started walking home before it got too late. After they arrived home Dave couldn’t wait any longer and proposed to her right there in their kitchen. Which, personally, I find absolutely the cutest.

I think Dave’s proposal and their personalities showed that their intimate wedding was absolutely perfect for the two of them. It was definitely obvious that Libby + Dave both wanted to have a fun and relaxing day, and I am certain this was achieved. Ending the night with a super fun sparkler exit and leaving in a vintage Cadillac definitely was the cherry on top of a super sweet night!

Indiana Historical Society Colorful Brunch Wedding // Stephanie & Alan

BRUNCH, MIMOSAS, PAPER CRANES, PINK HAIR, AND CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY

Stephanie + Alan had all of the makings for a perfectly awesome offbeat wedding when they got hitched in a short but sweet ceremony at the Indiana Historical Society. They decided early on they didn't want a traditional wedding and that what they really wanted was friends and family to gather with them while they tied the knot and then eat some breakfast!

Stephanie and Alan decided that with their wedding day they were going to ditch all of the things they hated about weddings as guests and make a day that's completely their own. Intimate guest lists? Sure! Walking each other down the aisle?! Heck yeah! No formal reception festivities? Why not?! Their day was sweet and simple and I really felt it fit their personalities. It was pretty great. Plus, did I mention... brunch?!

Indianapolis Vintage Fountain Square Theatre Wedding // Kim & Andy

RED LIPSTICK, PIN CURLS, & A VINTAGE CAR...

They're all I really need you know. I love me some vintage fashion. If I could go back to any time period for fashion alone it would definitely be the 1940's. Red lipstick, pin curls, pencil skirts, and girls with curves. Plus the vintage car?! Yes. Please.

Kim + Andy's quirky vintage wedding at the Fountain Square Theatre was nothing short of spectacular last weekend! I loved every single thing about it. Not to mention Andy's 1967 Dodge Dart that he has had since he was 17! Yes! It was all SPECTACULAR!

Indianapolis Historic Union Station Vintage Travel Wedding // Robert & Scott

"INVEST IN PEOPLE WHO INVEST IN YOU."

I once read that on Pinterest (yes! I'm a Pinterest addict!) and I felt like it applied to my life pretty well. Being a wedding photographer + mom + wife + daughter makes my life pretty crazy. I have a tendency to let friendships fall off to the side and I'm left wondering if people even still like me at all. But then people like Robert + Scott show up in my life at unexpected times and I'm reminded that when people invest in me, it's best to invest back in them.

On Friday you saw some sweet engagement photos I took of Robert + Scott a little over a week before they met at the end of an aisle at the Historic Union Station in Downtown Indianapolis to commit to each other for life. When they approached me just after the gay marriage ban was lifted in Indiana they told me about how they rushed downtown to get married while it was still legal and now they were going to finally have a wedding after over seven years of partnership. And that's when I knew they were going to invest in me. So I invested in them. I've been friends with Robert + Scott for almost five years and it was beyond an honor to photograph their day and witness their union. It was incredibly sweet and I enjoyed every second of being surrounded by love, friendship, and good times. Although I always feel like I've developed a friendship with all of my clients, I don't always get to photograph weddings for people I've had friendships with for years. I loved it.

Indianapolis Mavris Vineyard Wedding :: Chelsea + Nick

DID SOMEONE SAY WINE?

I'm pretty sure someone said wine? Ohh, it's a wine themed wedding you say? Complete with wine barrels, beautiful florals, and a wine mixing ceremony? Oh, and it's at the Mavris Arts + Events center in downtown Indianapolis? AND it's an amazing couple one of which is the brother-in-law of an AMAZING photographer? Why yes, of course, I'll be there.

When Chelsea approached me back in February 2013 for her May 2014, vineyard themed wedding at the Mavris I was absolutely stoked. Champagne, burgundy, + touches of olive green colors, one of my favorite venues (that I wanted to get married at myself!), awesome vendors, and wine themed. It's like there were little angels shining down on me that day when she decided she wanted me to be the one to document her day. I was definitely honored to say the least.

Photographing their day was an absolute blast. It rained that day, but no one cared. Everyone had the best disposition. The day was definitely full of love, happy tears, laughter, and a good time had by all.

Captain America :: 1940's Styled Shoot

THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER!

So the wait maybe hasn't been so long for you JSP lovers + friends but it's been excruciatingly long for me! As you saw (or didn't see) from my live tweeting my first styled shoot, this is it. I've been waiting since JANUARY to share these photos with you! Due to timing and other boring behind the scenes things it's taken me some time to share these photos with you. Now the day has finally come!

One cold, January day an incredible team of vendors and two beautiful people gathered to meet me at the Omni Severin hotel to let me take pictures. I believe it was bout 4 degrees outside and incredibly windy. But it was beautiful. In light of the upcoming Captain America sequel: The Winter Soldier releasing in April, I set off to create a Captain America styled wedding shoot. With the incredibly huge help of Sarah Cooper of Cooper Events we accomplished the goal of a Captain America styled shoot. We wanted to show brides how to incorporate Captain America into their wedding in a classy way instead of it coming off kitchy or themey. At a beautiful location, with beautiful flowers, a beautiful dress, and a beautiful "bride" and "groom. Everything was just BEA-U-TI-FUL! I loved it! Was it a wedding day? No. DId I capture beautiful images to use for my portfolio and for other members of the creative team to use for their portfolio? Yes. Was it worth it? YES!

Because this wasn't a real wedding day, I don't have a lot of storytelling commentary to give you. Because of that I will just give you some amazing photos and little bits of who contributed to each photo. Enjoy!

Laura + Jon :: Indianapolis Mavris Vintage Peacock Wedding

FINALLY! THE MAVRIS!

I have waiting all of my photography career to photograph at The Mavris. It's where I wanted to be married but with our rushed wedding date they weren't available. (Insert sad face here!) I had waited so long and it was all I hoped and dreamed it would be. Even in the winter.

When Laura + I met for the first time it was love at first sight. Well, love for Yorkies. Her and Jon have 2 Yorkies and I have my little monster Buddy. We met at a Panera and over a smoothie and Mountain Dew we discussed her super fun day, our love for Yorkies, and general good times. We knew our partnership was destined to be.

This is one of my favorite photos of the two of them together. The purple lighting was so cool and although I know it leaves a weird affect on their skin, I kind of like it. I felt like it told the story of their day.
