“How about coffee, drinks, dinner and a movie for as long as we both shall live?” - You’ve Got Mail
This year I kicked off my engagement session season early with this super fun engagement session in Downtown Zionsville. Living in Indiana typically my couples choose to have their engagement sessions in either the Spring or Fall. A few trickle into the Summer but usually it’s too hot and I’m too busy with weddings to do engagement sessions. But this year Kelsey & Colin kicked off my first session of the year by embracing the cold and having a January engagement session in the heart of the little town of Zionsville. And if you’ve never been, you should seriously go. It’s the cutest little town. I sometimes feel like I’m a collector of cute little towns. Living in Pendleton, I love the small town historic nature of the streets here and I love meeting couples who want to show me their small town. Or at least one that’s important to them. Although this isn’t my first time shooting in Zionsville, Kelsey & Colin did not disappoint.
Kelsey and Colin met at a Christmas Party at a cabin in 2015. They were able to put their IU and Purdue differences aside and focus on the things they do have in common; like movies, laughing, breweries, sushi, and their mutual careers in education. Less than a year after they met Colin planned the best proposal… ever. (No like, literally ever. Colin… fist bump bro. #ProposalGoals.) He planned it all at the cabin in Thorntown where they first met. Lined the dock with candles where he proposed to her with one heckuva ring! He planned it so that all of their friends joined them after the proposal for an engagement party. Definitely an evening worth celebrating.
Their mutual love of breweries was the bud of inspiration for their engagement session. Being winter in Indian we had to find a way to work with the cold without freezing off our bits! So we lined up two indoor locations they love in Downtown Zionsville, Rush on Main and Noble Order Brewery. In between we captured some photos on Zionsville’s brick sidewalks that line all of the historic the buildings, Lincoln Park, and a few in Bites Dessert Bar. It was definitely a blast and I can’t say I have ever laughed more during an engagement session, ever.
The best way to stay warm outdoors, in Indiana, in January is to snuggle up with someone you love.
One of the first locations they wanted to try out was Rush On Main. A cute little Chicago Style restaurant serving up Windy City staples in the heart of Indiana! Great for Chicagoan’s displaced in Indiana. Or just anyone who wants a good beer and a good bite to eat. They were super accommodating to us taking some photos in there. Kelsey & Colin sat down for some photos, downed a beer, and told me all about their proposal. Cause the couple that shares a beer together, stays together! Now I just want to go back and eat there… because well.. food.
Also, can we talk about that tear drop ring?! Seriously, Colin has some ring picking skills!
After we finished at Rush On Main we popped over to Bites Dessert Bar for some sweet treats and sweet snuggles. I was so mad because I left my wallet in my car and all I wanted was a yummy macaron! But either way, these two were the sweetest. Also, I was Bites’ chandelier for my kitchen. Do you think they’ll notice if it goes missing? (Pssst… it’s definitely NOT at my house!)
If you’ve never been to Downtown Zionsville, you’ve never seen the hidden little gem of Lincoln Park. Famous for President Lincoln having given a speech there. Now famous again because Kelsey & Colin kissed there and acted pretty damn adorable. Just sayin’.
Finally, after we finished up at Lincoln Park we went inside to Noble Order Brewing to warm up and they shared a beer. (I was working!) I love to have my couples tell stories to each other to capture natural reactions from them. Here I told them to tell each other a favorite memory of the other person that you think the person may have forgotten. This is when I got to hear a lovely story about how during their early dating Colin “almost killed them” multiple times with his epic driving skills. Maybe he was nervous? Either way, this story not only had me laughing to some tears but also Kelsey and Colin. #Winning
This red couch was made for snuggles, soft embraces, and telling the one you love how much you love them.
We finished the session by taking a brief moment back outdoors to get a few more of this duo in natural light. Snuggling up with a fuzzy blanket embracing each other with all of their love, smiles, and laughter.
Thank you so much to Kelsey & Colin for having me to document your amazing engagement session! I cannot wait for your wedding this July! I know we’re going to have SO much fun together! I’m seriously so pumped to document all of your love on your big day. Thanks for being rad!
